The Heinrich Lab at UCR

Breadcrumb

Our lab examines human physiological responses to hypoxia.  We use in vivo and in vitro experimental approaches to investigate the how oxygen limitation influences physiological functions including control of breathing, sleep quality, cognitive function, and immune function.  Our work uses high-altitude exposure as a model of chronic sustained hypoxia in human populations, including high-altitude resident groups and sojourners. This work provides unique insights into hypoxia-related clinical pathologies such as obstructive sleep apnea and acute and chronic lung disease.
